Each year in America, millions of books are destroyed, shredded, burned and thrown away. Equally, millions of children will never know the joy of owning a book. In Africa, the book famine is a harsh reality. Throughout the continent, five or six children share one book. Empty library shelves, are a steady reminder of Africa’s hunger for education. In Haiti, nearly fifty percent of the population remains illiterate and Creole literature scarce. In India, child labor is widespread as many parents are financially incapable of educating their children. In Kosova, the price of a Western medicine book is equal to the monthly salary of a doctor. And, our soldiers across the globe, sailors, marines and airmen carry on without access to books or any reading materials. In general, over eight-hundred-million people remain illiterate in today’s world, a figure likely to remain unaffected if current developments continue.
Thus, the staff of My One School Inc. strives make use of those books others are inclined to dispose, so others may live well. We believe that there is no better gift to a child, than the gift of education. Furthermore, we believe that money isn’t everything. One mustn’t feel the need to give money in order to help. Here, everyone is able to give. Every single individual, company, library, trust or foundation, can stumble upon a book, or a few, and contribute to our cause. This also means, YOU! We recognize that we all have books we have read once, but never will again, books that remain unopened, or those purposeless ones collecting dust in our shelves.Going back to Mother Teresa who said, “Let us not be satisfied with just giving money. Money is not enough, money can be got, but they need your hearts to love them. So, spread your love everywhere you go.”
